Brett Morreau
Brett Morreau is a Canadian film score composer and sound editor, designer, and mixer currently residing in Montréal, Québec.
A versatile musician, Morreau began learning to play the piano from an early age, completing his way through the Canadian Royal Conservatory of Music’s piano performance program by the time he finished high school. Along with the piano, Morreau spent several years learning to play the clarinet while in high school and all throughout university.
By 2013, Morreau had completed an Honours Bachelor of Music in Theory and Composition degree, as well as a Bachelor of Arts Major in Film Studies degree, both at the University of Western Ontario in London, Ontario, Canada. He furthered his musical composition education by studying in the Film Scoring program offered by UCLA in Los Angeles, California, completing the program in September 2020. In 2016, he also graduated with a Diploma in Film Production from the Toronto Film School.
Since 2015, Morreau has composed the music for 6 feature films, including the French-Canadian thriller "Those Who Play with Fire" ("Ceux qui jouent avec le feu") and the documentary feature "We're Up Here: Rebuilding a Nation in Canada's Northwest" (currently available on CBC Gem), as well as music for over 50 short films, including 6 science-fiction shorts recently combined into the anthology feature film "The Fractured Anthology" (currently available on Amazon Prime).
As a post-sound editor, designer, and mixer, Morreau has worked on dozens of projects ranging from short films to feature films, in all manner of genres. He was the sound editor and mixer for the 8-part reality miniseries, “Caribbean Tales Incubator”, created by Caribbean Tales and Flow Distribution, which aired throughout the Caribbean area. He also recently completed sound design on a found-footage, horror feature film called "Godforsaken," which is currently available on Amazon Prime and Apple TV.
Morreau has won awards for Best Music and Sound Design at the 2016 TFS Festival of Films and the 2016 50-Hour Film Challenge: Toronto.
Recently, Morreau has been working on directing his own projects. Throughout 2021 and 2022, he directed or co-directed 6 science-fiction short films that have been collected into the anthology feature "The Fractured Anthology" for Amazon Prime. His animated short film "The Rainbow Bridge" is currently on the film festival circuit. This short won the "Best Animation" award at the Emerging Lens Cultural Film Festival (2023) in Halifax, Nova Scotia, and was nominated for two Golden Sheaf awards for the Emerging Filmmaker and Indigenous Filmmaker Award categories at the 2023 edition of the Yorkton Film Festival in Yorkton, Saskatchewan. Both festivals are Canadian Screen Awards-qualifying festivals for the animated short category.
